The following story has nothing to do with being a successful coach. However, today while I was out getting my "2 exposures a day" for Beachbody..have to practice what I preach..I met a young guy and we started to talk about P90X and how he had quit the first week because it was so hard. Then I told him my story and how I was 40 when I did P90X so surely he could make it through with some encouragement! And he said, "Yeah..I notice all these old people doing P90X and keep thinking I should be able to do it.." At which time, I made sure I was flexing my 44 year old biceps as I pushed back the rack of tshirts. And that made me think about the following experience.
So, I'm 44. And quite frankly the skin just isn't as elastic as it used to be. And I've got ...wrinkles. And yes, I don't really like them. I don't feel 44...do I have to look it? So about a month before the Beachbody Coach Summit in LA last March, I started looking at face creams. I was looking for that miracle product that would work wonders and give me back the skin of my youth sans zits.
I went to Walmart where the facial cream/cleanser section took up one side of an entire aisle. I thought, if we could just decide on one or two miracle creams and get rid of the rest of these..same with shampoo and deodorant..we could have a personal care section the size of an outhouse. Instead, there is an entire aisle of shampoo; an entire aisle of soap and deodorant and, as mentioned above, way more choices on skincare than I needed. I digress.
Anyway, I started reading all the labels on the skincare. They all had great claims to make my worrisome wrinkles disappear or at the very least "reduce the appearance" of my wrinkles. I wasn't looking to reduce! I wanted them gone!
On the first trip I walked out empty handed. Same on second trip. I decided I could afford a little extra and almost bought the whole kit and kaboodle with a special dermabrasion device but I walked away again. Finally, I decided to go for it and grabbed a bottle. Based more on the color of the package than on the brand. I'm a sucker for lime green and orange.
So, I started to use the cream. I just went with a cream. Didn't want to overdo it. It tingled, but I didn't notice anything radically different and even after a few days, I could still see the wrinkles. I'm not a patient person. However, I kept using it every day in the hopes it would help.
Summit came. I packed all my goodies, including my tingly lotion. On the first day, I went out into the lobby to watch for a couple of coaches so I could lead them to the Team Genesis meeting room. And I spotted one of the coaches I was looking for, who shall remain nameless...and before we even exchanged hugs he said, "Anne! I almost didn't recognize you! You look 25!!" And I immediately thought... Wow. Glad I went with the $3.78 bottle instead of the $79.00 package!
Then he said, "Yeah..seems like all the 25 year olds in California are getting braces."
Oh yeah...the braces. Lesson...don't waste even $3.78 on a bottle of face cream..(although how much of a miracle was I expecting for $3.78??) You just need a $4500 set of braces! Add a free pimple or two and you could look 16 again!
Why put this on the blog? I don't know. But I want you to know I love being around the Beachbody community. It's a unique environment and one I don't take for granted. And I love our team of coaches. Committed, caring, sometimes crazy but always devoted to helping people feel better and look better. Come join us!
In this together,
Anne
